Introduction

This chapter introduces three civilizations that preceded Earth's human civilization, with the focus on the second civilization, Lumania. The Lumanians were founded by a fringe group from the first civilization, who attempted to eliminate violence through physiological modification and developed sound technology and multisensory art, but failed and died out because their energy was blocked and their fear was not removed. Their psychic legacy still influences people today, and different probable realities coexist.

Key Points of This Chapter

  • Before the present human civilization on Earth, there were three earlier civilizations. This chapter focuses mainly on the second one, Lumania.
  • The Lumanians tried to eliminate violence on a physiological level, but this resulted in blocked energy and intensified fear, and the civilization failed and died out.
  • The Lumanians developed the ability to move objects by means of sound, underground cities, multisensory art, and highly advanced communication.
  • The psychic legacy of the Lumanians still exists within the human psychic environment, influencing present-day tendencies toward peace, art, and communication.
  • All probabilities exist simultaneously, and the Lumanian civilization may have succeeded in other systems of reality.

Main Text

Starting from the Mists of Prehistoric Civilizations

Today we continue with Chapter 15 of the Seth book Seth Speaks: reincarnational civilizations, probabilities, and more on the multidimensional God. Just from the title of this chapter, you may not know what it wants to say. It mainly talks about the three civilizations before our current human civilization -- we humans on Earth are now in the fourth civilization, and before this there were three more, and the focus of this chapter is the second civilization.

Regarding prehistoric civilizations, there are many, many claims and arguments. Because they are simply too far from our era, they are basically impossible to verify, and we can only rely on occasional bits of information that surface. These things actually do not have much scientific or archaeological value either; if you want to study them from those angles, it is really too difficult. This includes Atlantis and the ancient Sumerian civilization1 that many people talk about, and so on -- these are mostly things later generations have inferred through legends and myths combined with some archaeological discoveries. There is too little information, so it is very hard to have a complete understanding of them.

Today, with Seth's help, we will get an overall introduction. He introduces it in great detail, with a great many specifics, so we can have a complete understanding. The history of our current human civilization is at most around ten thousand years; the history with actual civilizational records is probably only around five thousand years; the records of modern humans truly beginning to appear go back about ten thousand years. And the lifespan of the Earth, as measured by humans themselves, is about 4.6 billion years2, while the lifespan of the entire universe, as measured by modern science, is about 13.7 billion years3. On a time scale measured in hundreds of millions of years, ten thousand years is almost like a flash, something that happens in an instant. But we also know that time itself is the simultaneous occurrence of past, present, and future, so this time does not actually have that much real significance. It is meaningful only when considered according to Earth time; if viewed from a higher dimension, time itself has no actual meaning.

Reincarnational Civilizations

He said, in a certain sense, you could say there are reincarnational civilizations. Why call them reincarnational civilizations? Just as we have reincarnational individuals—since each person can reincarnate, dying and coming again, dying and coming again—then can our civilizations also come again after they have been wiped out?

He said that in a certain respect, this is so.

Session 562

Every entity that takes on flesh works to develop those abilities that can best be nurtured and fulfilled within the physical environment.

That is, the abilities that can best be developed in the three-dimensional world, and we have been developing them all along. It has a responsibility to the civilization in which it lives each time -- including the world we live in now, we have a responsibility to this human civilization. Why is there responsibility? Because through its own thoughts, emotions, and actions it has contributed to this civilization. Every one of us is contributing to human civilization, and the development of human civilization is intimately connected to each of us.

He learns from success, and he also learns from failure. Just like each of our reincarnational lives, in each lifetime we learn from success and we also learn from failure. The same is true of our civilizational reincarnations -- not every civilization is necessarily successful; a civilization may also decline and move toward destruction, all of that is possible. But even if it is destroyed, within that destruction something is learned; even if it fails, something is learned.

He says that we humans regard the physical, real history as beginning with cave dwellers and continuing to the present. Contemporary archaeologists hold that human civilization began with people who lived in caves -- whether Peking Man, Yuanmou Man, or even earlier humans -- and developed from cave dwellers to the present. But there have also been other great scientific civilizations, some mentioned in legend, some entirely unknown. In our terms, all of these have vanished. But from the perspective of a higher dimension, they have not vanished; they are still developing.

What he says next is basically discussed from the human perspective, from the perspective of Earth civilization. He says that from your point of view, humanity seems to have only one chance -- starting from primitive cave dwellers, only this one opportunity to develop; if it develops well, all is well, and if it does not, it may destroy itself. Then either solve our problems, or be wiped out by your own aggressiveness, by your own lack of understanding and lack of spirituality. It is possible either that we solve our problems and develop, or that through our wars, our aggressiveness, and our approach of resolving problems by force, we destroy ourselves.

Just as you are given many lives to develop and fulfill your abilities, so the same has been given to the whole of humanity, and not only the single linear historical development you now know.

Just as each person's abilities require many lives, many reincarnations, to develop and fulfill, the same thing has been given to the whole of humanity. So this structure of reincarnation -- the reincarnation of many civilizations -- this possibility of reincarnational structure is only a small etching within the entire picture of probabilities. Each of our reincarnations, against the vast background of the whole universe, is only a very small aspect.

Within it you have all the time you need, as much time as you want, because you can reincarnate again and again in order to develop the abilities that must be developed before leaving the cycle of reincarnation. Group after group of people, in various cycles of reincarnational activity, have encountered crisis after crisis and reached the level of your material development. And they either moved beyond that point, or they destroyed that particular civilization of theirs.

This reincarnation of humanity that we now know is only a very small point within the great chapter of reincarnation as a whole. In the development of Earth civilization as a whole, our souls have in fact already returned countless times -- it has not only incarnated into this one period of Earth time, into this one civilization, but it has also come in earlier civilizational eras. Again and again it lets us keep learning and growing, reincarnation after reincarnation.

So at this time we may encounter crises, and we may also reach our current level of material and technological development, and we may also surpass it, and we may also, because of our own problems, have destroyed ourselves in previous civilizations -- all of these are possible.

Under such circumstances -- the circumstances mentioned earlier, where a particular civilization was destroyed -- they were given another chance. They not only know their own failure at the unconscious level, but they also know the reasons behind it, they know why they failed. So when they begin to form new primitive groups, when a new human civilization begins, psychologically they are one step ahead of others, because they have already reincarnated once and know how they failed. So failure, from a certain angle, may have been very tragic for that one civilization, but it is beneficial for the beginning of the next civilization.

Be sure to remember: this lesson of failure is known unconsciously, and the reasons for the failure are also known unconsciously -- at the conscious level, they do not know it.

There is also the kind that moved beyond. When they have surpassed our current level of technological development, civilizational development, and spiritual development, what do they do?

Those other peoples who solved their problems left your earth and went to other points in the physical universe.

They went to other star systems. They have already left Earth. But when they reached that level of development, they had already matured spiritually and psychically -- remember, he is not referring only to technology. They make use of energies that we know nothing about at present.

We know nothing about many energies. We all know that burning wood can produce heat, and now we know that nuclear fission or fusion can produce enormous energy. At present, the only thing humans can control is nuclear fission, such as nuclear power generation; humans still cannot control nuclear fusion, and when it can be used is still unknown. Even nuclear fusion, as a future ideal, is extraordinarily good, beyond description. For example, they once made a theoretical estimate: using a material called palladium, if a nuclear fusion reaction were produced, the energy released by complete fusion of a piece of palladium the size of a match head would be enough for all of humanity to use for a year. That is only the reactions we can currently know. There are also energies that exist in our space itself, as Seth said in earlier chapters, there are many coordinate points in our space -- the overlapping parts of different times and spaces are coordinate points, and the energy there is inexhaustible, but we still do not know how to draw energy from them. Only after maturing psychically and spiritually can one use these energies.

Earth is, to them, a legendary homeland -- they went out from Earth and formed new races and new civilizations on different star systems. Physically, they also cannot adapt to the atmospheric conditions of our Earth. But as long as they dwell in physical reality -- remember this, as long as they still exist in physical form, no matter what new species they develop on other star systems or other planets, as long as they exist in physical form, they will reincarnate, reincarnating in other places beyond Earth.

But among these people, some underwent a mutation and had long since left the cycle of reincarnation. Those who have already left the cycle evolved into the "spiritual beings" they originally were -- like Seth, spiritual existences that do not need physical form. This group, the entities that have already cast off physical form, still have great interest in Earth, because Earth is their homeland. Just as many people, after achieving success and fame, still invest in their hometown and support their hometown -- it is the same principle. From their state of pure energy, pure spirit, they give support and energy to Earth. In a certain sense, they can also be called the gods of Earth.

So the title of this chapter is "A Further Discussion of the Multidimensional God" -- some of what we call the gods on Earth came about this way: they went out from Earth, evolved to a higher stage and became spiritual beings, and then came back, supporting Earth spiritually and energetically.

On your planet, they were involved in three particular civilizations long before Atlantis.

Atlantis is already considered a very ancient civilization by people. Atlantis was especially skilled at manipulating crystals; their control over crystals was extremely strong, and they could use crystals for energy collection or control -- that was the characteristic of Atlantean civilization. The Atlantean civilization was only about ten thousand and some years ago -- about 11,600 years ago4, which is the general view of much archaeological research, though it is not certain now. One account says it sank to the bottom of the sea because of a great flood.

Regarding Atlantis, Bashar holds that it was because a comet fell to Earth. The nucleus of this comet was a huge mass of ice, and its overall volume was extremely large; it could be regarded as a very small planet. After the comet struck Earth, besides producing enormous seismic shocks on Earth, the vast amount of water brought by this huge comet also entered Earth, and the sea level began to rise. In the words of the Bible, at that time it rained torrentially for a full 40 days5 -- the rain was as if the sky had split open, water pouring down from the heavens. Thinking about it now, if you imagine a comet plunging into Earth's atmosphere and burning and melting directly in the atmosphere, the water carried by that glacier poured directly from the sky onto Earth -- you could not call it rain anymore; it was basically pouring onto Earth. So the entire sea level rose sharply, and the whole Earth, except for the mountain ranges, was basically submerged. The Bible records 40 days, and then several more months passed before the land dried. As for Noah's Ark, it was because ancient humans foresaw this disaster6, and God, in order to save humanity, told Noah to build a great ark and put a small number of people on it -- this was a beginning of human civilization.

Let us set aside this account for now. The time Bashar talked about Atlantis happened to be one I attended; he spoke for about 40 minutes, and the theme of that lecture was the last day of Atlantis. That is to say, before this Atlantean civilization there had already been three particular civilizations, and those civilizations were all ones in which these people had participated -- after developing to a high level on Earth, they left, went to other star systems to develop and reincarnate, and after achieving tremendous development and maturity spiritually and psychically, after completely becoming pure spiritual beings, they returned to Earth. They had already completely transcended existence in time and space, because we now know that any time travel between star systems is calculated in light-years, and it is very difficult for humans to achieve through traditional interstellar travel. They returned to Earth and participated in the origins of three human civilizations on Earth.

So this becomes a very strange paradox, like the grandfather paradox: they were part of one of these three civilizations that developed well, went out, and after going out came back again, and then participated in these three civilizations. In the words of much science fiction, after developing successfully, they came back to develop themselves. It is very hard to describe this in words, because it is actually a process of development within the simultaneity of time. If you can understand that time is simultaneous -- that past, present, and future occur at the same time -- then you can probably understand what he means. If you try to understand it by taking time as an unchangeable premise, then this in itself is a paradox and cannot exist. You can only understand it by standing in a higher dimension.

Changes in the Earth's Position

Speaking of the period when he participated in those three particular civilizations, Seth said:

Your planet itself was in fact in a somewhat different "position" than it is today.

The position our Earth was in is not the same as its position today. Rob asked, was it in a different orbit? Seth said not to say orbit, for the time being still use the word "position," and he put it in quotation marks.

Why did he not use orbit? Because orbit is how humans view the motion of galaxies from the perspective of three-dimensional observation and the three-dimensional world. We think the Earth revolves around the sun along an orbit, the nine planets have their own orbits, and the sun also has its own orbit. But the word "position" is more like a plane or level; it incorporates part of the three-dimensional world, yet also carries part of the concept of multidimensional space. So he said, especially in terms of your relationship to the three other planets you know of, you are a matter of a "position," not a matter of orbits.

Moreover, the Earth's poles were reversed. Incidentally, in the history of your planet, there were three long periods when this was also the case -- the Earth's poles were often reversed. So in that historical period, the Earth may have been upside down. These civilizations were all highly technological; in fact, the second civilization was far more advanced than your own in terms of technology.

Seth now begins to speak about the second civilization. Among the three civilizations mentioned earlier, sound was all utilized very effectively:

"Sound" was utilized far more effectively. Not only in medicine, or in war, but also as a motive force for vehicles, and for transporting objects.

Sound was used to transport heavy and enormous objects. When he said the word "war" above, as Seth spoke through Jane's mouth, his tone and facial expression both had a kind of "you never would have guessed it" look -- you never would have guessed that civilization also had war?

The Second Civilization: Lumania

The sphere of influence of the second civilization was mainly in what is now called Africa and Australia. Why does he use "so-called" here? Because at that time the earth's tectonic plates were not the same as they are now, and the positions of the landmasses were also different, so he is speaking roughly about the so-called Africa -- at that time it may not have been located where Africa and Australia are now. Moreover, at that time, not only was the climate completely different, but the earth's two poles had also reversed; the magnetic poles were flipped, so the current South Pole was the North Pole and the North Pole was the South Pole. Large expanses of land had different distributions due to different gravitational forces. However, roughly speaking, this civilization was concentrated in a certain region and did not attempt to expand; it was very inward-oriented. At the same time as this second highly developed civilization, there also existed another primitive civilization on earth, scattered in various places. This second civilization not only made no attempt to civilize the rest of the world, but also did everything in its power to prevent any such progress -- not only did it not assimilate them, it actually prevented any such progress, not allowing those primitive tribes to develop toward civilization.

The members of this second civilization were, for the most part, a fringe group of an earlier successful civilization. A fringe group of the first civilization, not the mainstream or the main body. The majority of people in that first civilization had already decided to continue existing in other regions of your physical universe, but although this group could freely enter other planes of existence -- not just physical planes, but including other nonphysical planes -- they were particularly enamored of earthly life, and at the same time believed they could improve upon the last experiment they had participated in, which was their first civilization.

Speaking of this, many people get confused about the first, second, third civilizations and so on, and sometimes it gets jumbled. What is the reason for this confusion? It is because these civilizations have many possibilities that exist simultaneously. Seth is only talking about one possibility of the current human civilization's existence, and these several civilizations, just like each of our reincarnations, all exist simultaneously.

I don't understand what he means by simultaneous existence, so let me give an example. For instance, our current human civilization, this present one, has many possibilities existing simultaneously. Suppose, as KFK20607 said, a world war breaks out in 2048, and then humanity undergoes spiritual elevation -- that is one possibility; in 2075 Seth said humanity's overall spirit would be completely elevated, and that is another. This possibility may or may not happen. Seth emphasized in many places, when Rob and Jane repeatedly asked similar questions -- will we be destroyed, how will humanity's future develop -- Seth said it is all decided by yourselves. How human civilization develops is decided by each one of us in the present moment. In other words, every possibility exists simultaneously. In one version humanity has already been destroyed, in another version humanity has already transcended itself, and so on -- all these possibilities are developing simultaneously within their respective reality systems.

So when he tells these stories of ancient times -- roughly speaking, stories from hundreds of millions or even billions of years ago -- sometimes it sounds a bit confusing to us. One moment he says the previous civilization, the next moment the one before that, and he does not simply say whether it is the first or the second civilization, and then another moment he says the last experiment. The reason for the confusion is that we humans always want to use our time or chronology to figure it out: just tell me what actually happened on earth. We humans cannot accept the existence of a multiverse, cannot accept that time exists simultaneously, and cannot accept the cosmic fact that multiple possibilities exist simultaneously. We can only accept a single-threaded history -- what happened yesterday, what happened the day before, what happened a million years ago, what happened ten million years ago -- humans can only accept these things.

But our history is just like our reincarnations. If we compare a person to the developmental history of the earth, you were produced through countless reincarnations, and in your continuous development and progress, you are always in a state of becoming, and all these possibilities exist. The earth is the same. Only if you understand it this way can you truly understand it. You cannot, when talking about the developmental history of humanity, fall back into a three-dimensional world's mode of thinking. You must be able to pull yourself out of the three-dimensional mode at any time, in order to truly understand the mutual influence and inner connections between the several developments of human civilization.

So they believed they could improve upon the last experiment they had participated in -- this "last" does not use "which number," because this is only relative to the people of the first-generation civilization. They no longer had any interest in starting from scratch like an infant-stage civilization, did not want to progress bit by bit from single-celled organisms. You know there is a game called "Civilization"; their interest was not in observing that slow development. Therefore their knowledge was for the most part innately possessed -- they did not want to learn from the beginning, so this civilization from the very start possessed knowledge innately.

This particular group, the fringe group of the first civilization, then quickly passed through the stages of what you call various skills and technologies. Initially they were especially concerned with developing a type of human being with what kind of nature? One that could use an inherently built-in protective device against "violence." They wanted to use design methods, or manufacturing methods, to create a new kind of human being, one that itself had no violence, one that carried within itself a protective device against violence, like a fuse that would blow on its own the moment it encountered anything violent.

As far as they were concerned -- as far as that portion of people at the end of the first civilization was concerned -- they believed violence was bad, and wanted the new human beings to have no violence. For them, the desire for peace became almost what you would call an instinct. There were some changes in the body's functions -- remember, the body's functions had already changed. When the new human being's mind issued a strong aggressive command, the body would not respond. If you said go kill a person, or kill an animal, he would not move.

Now psychologically, in some people of our present time, you can still see vestiges of this. Before they want to commit a violent act against others, they themselves will first faint, or even attack their own body system, thereby preventing themselves from committing violence -- or they develop high blood pressure, cardiac arrest, fainting, foaming at the mouth, stroke -- in short, they use self-harm to terminate this violent behavior. A portion of humanity today is still like this, and this is the influence of a vestige of that second civilization.

For example, if someone now hands you a knife and says go kill a chicken, how many people do you think would dare to kill a chicken? Let alone kill a sheep, a cow, a deer, a pig. Someone hands you a knife, ties the animal up there, and tells you to kill it -- would you dare? You understand now why you don't dare -- there are many, many reasons, and one of them is that you inherently possess this thing. There are also many people who faint at the sight of blood, both men and women. This is not faked, not a psychological reaction, but a physiological reaction. This is because the body's functions had changed.

Therefore this civilization did not interfere with the natives surrounding them. Do you now understand why they did not spread their civilization among the natives? Because when you want to impose your own civilization upon a backward people or a backward civilization, the early bloodshed is unavoidable. Many times in such transformations, unless the lower civilization's mental and spiritual realm has expanded, they will use force to resist you -- you do not want to use force, but they will use force to resist you.

However, they did send members of their own group to live among the natives and intermarry with them. They hoped in this way to peacefully change the physiology of the race -- not using force, but intermarrying with you, allowing the biology of the two races to hybridize, hoping the new race would become one without violence, without aggression.

They diverted the violent energy that is discharged in your present era toward other pursuits. But this energy began to turn against them. Why did it turn against them? The following passage is very crucial: they had not learned how to deal with violence and aggression; they merely attempted to remove "violence" physiologically. They did not remove violence psychologically, spiritually, or from the perspective of their own cognition, but instead installed a switch in you physiologically. This approach would cause new entanglements. If you have not resolved the problem of aggression and violence from a higher level, but only through physiological restrictions, then new entanglements will arise. What entanglements? It is the following passage, which you must remember, and it is also a very important point for us humans. This is very core:

Energy must be allowed to flow freely through the body system, controlled and directed by mental power, or as you like to say, by the power of the psyche.

This sentence is very important, and you must always remember it: your energy must be allowed -- this is mandatory -- to flow freely through your body system, passing through you and flowing through you without any obstruction, without any entanglement. Then you can use the mind and wisdom, use spiritual things to control and direct this energy, but you cannot prevent it from flowing, you cannot prevent it from flowing freely. This is somewhat like the method in the story of Yu the Great controlling the flood: you must channel it, not block it.

The humans of the second civilization blocked all violent and aggressive energy, not allowing it to occur -- the moment the energy arose, they would faint. Using such a mechanism, they prevented the free flow of energy. What terrible consequences would follow? Your emotions are also a kind of energy, emotional energy. For example, if you particularly hate someone, or dislike someone, or have emotions to vent, you must vent them. You must never say, "I am a spiritual practitioner, I cannot lose my temper, I cannot get angry, I must endure everything, endurance comes first in all things" -- any such suppression will rebound, will turn against you, and cause tremendous damage to your body and spirit. You must channel it.

In Buddhism there is also this viewpoint, which is the sentence emphasized in the Diamond Sutra: "Let the mind arise without abiding anywhere."8 How do you settle this mind? He says you do not need to settle it; without abiding anywhere, you do not need to manage it. Let it come, let it go, let it pass, do not hold on to it.

For example, someone insults you, and you hear it. Having heard it, you get angry. Get angry, and after getting angry let it go -- just be angry for that little while, and after the anger let the thought pass. This is a correct way of handling it. If your level has already reached the state of not getting angry, that is of course best, but if your level has not yet reached that point, and others insult you and you get angry, then just get angry, and after the anger let it pass, do not dwell on it. Many spiritual practitioners will say, "I should not get angry; according to our teacher's teachings, I should not get angry" -- but they cannot control themselves. When someone points at their nose and insults them, they naturally get angry, and then they suppress themselves saying do not get angry, and this anger accumulates.

A small anger, accumulated over time, eventually becomes a big anger. You see many actual phenomena: many especially honest people, when oppressed to a certain degree and they can no longer endure it, will commit an especially strong act of violence. We say, how could such an honest child do such a thing? It is precisely because of long-term endurance and the accumulation of energy. This accumulation of energy is extremely strong -- it is not that if my energy is 10, the accumulation is 10. If you understand the principle of lasers, energy under the excitation of specific gases reflects back and forth countless times, becoming stronger and stronger; the original energy may be only a little, but after countless reflections and excitations, it can destroy everything. The principle of emotions and the principle of energy are similar: if you do not let it vent, it accumulates inside, and in the end it erupts in an explosive manner that even you yourself cannot control.

So energy can be controlled and directed by mental or spiritual power, but you must let it flow through; you cannot block it. Illness in the body is all caused by this energy not flowing freely -- think carefully, is your own illness caused by some emotion being blocked, some energy stuck there? Let it flow away, and your illness will be cured.

This change in the body -- not allowing you to have violence, fainting when there is violence -- created a kind of pressure on the entire system. He speaks very obliquely; what kind of pressure? It is that you have pressed down this emotional energy, not guided it, not channeled it, but held it down there. Not allowing energy to vent is itself a pressure.

The creative functions and foundations, the impulse to put into action, were distorted into aggressive ideas and not understood.

What are the creative functions and foundations? They are the impulse to put into action. When we want to create something, we have this impulse to put it into action. This creative foundation, the impulse to put into action, was distorted in that civilization into a kind of aggressive idea and was not understood -- you treated this impulse to act as a kind of aggression, and it was likewise suppressed.

So in a certain way, breathing itself is a kind of violence.

This sentence is not easy to understand; it is a completely philosophical-sounding statement. Breathing itself involves action, and there is certainly the original impulse of action within it. We will not explain this sentence; just treat it as a slogan and you will understand: if someone says you are too violent, just answer with this sentence -- breathing itself is a kind of violence, so then stop breathing.

They preset this suppressive force within the human body, and as a result it became a mutually controlling, immobile system. The moment anything moves, they say you have aggression, you have violent tendencies. Any action, if pushed to the extreme, will turn into its opposite. Within this, the necessary thrust for action truly became impossible -- because your system had internal restrictions, not allowing you to have impulses, not allowing you to have the power to act, not allowing you to have aggression.

For example, eating -- this is a primal drive. If you do not eat you will die, and this itself is a drive, which is why you go hunting, why you kill other animals, why you hunt so ferociously and brutally, because you need to live. Suppose you solve the problem of eating; what about reproduction? Is the drive to find a girlfriend or boyfriend also very strong? That primal impulse you simply cannot suppress; when your adolescent hormones surge, you simply cannot control it. This sexuality itself is a kind of violent act. From this perspective, all action is a kind of violence. You want to do a project, want to start a company, want to do a business; in the business world you mobilize the strength of all your company's employees to fight against competitors -- we often say the marketplace is like a battlefield, and you fight your competitors to the death, in bloody competition. If you have done business, you know it is almost no different from a battlefield, except that it does not take people's lives; the means and methods are already no different from a battlefield, doing everything possible within certain rules. You drive the other company into bankruptcy, employees lose their jobs, and some people may be indirectly led to death because of the economic impact on their financial and family situations -- but you do not care at all, because you have the impulse of desiring success.

So this impulsiveness, violence, or aggressiveness -- you cannot only see its negative aspects. If you only see the negative aspects, you will end up like the fate of the second humanity -- they restricted it, rejected all of it, rejected everything -- and then you will have restricted all this vitality to death, becoming lifeless and utterly unable to move.

An overly conscientious, inhibitory physical and mental condition was thus formed.

Being overly conscientious is not wrong in itself, but when it is excessive it becomes an inhibitory physical and mental condition.

In it the natural survival needs of the human organism were hindered in every respect.

Spiritually, this civilization made considerable progress. Its technology was extremely active and advancing, as it worked to develop things like artificial food -- they did not need to kill animals for survival under any circumstances; they had artificial food, artificial meat, artificial protein, and no longer needed to eat animals from nature.

Speaking of this, you will find that this is very much like what? Is it not very much like the views of many vegetarians in our current society? And is this description not very much like some Buddhist viewpoints -- not killing, having no violence, and no matter how others bully you, you cannot respond with violence. Is this trend of thought not somewhat close to some of Buddhism's original ideas? So you will feel that Buddhism is in many ways suppressive; once a person enters it, they are bound by countless precepts: if you are a monk, you have 250 precepts; if you are a nun, a woman who wants to practice and have her head shaved to enter the Buddhist path, you have 380 precepts -- 130 more than men. You can imagine a person under the control of such precepts all day long; what initiative or creativity could they still have? They must constantly think about whether doing this violates a precept, whether doing that violates that precept. Many people also regard the precepts as a foundation of Buddhist practice -- the Three Treasures of Buddhism are the sutras, the vinaya, and the treatises; the vinaya are the precepts spoken by the Buddha, and the treatises are the later eminent monks' and great masters' understanding of the sutras and the vinaya. Many people believe that as long as they uphold the precepts and practice according to the precepts, they can attain the true fruit. We will not comment here on whether this is right or wrong; we are only saying that the views of this second civilization in many respects resemble certain religions, or certain cultures, including vegetarian culture and so on, all formed in this way. It has its beneficial side, and it has its detrimental side.

At the same time, this civilization also tried not to damage the environment -- this is practically what modern environmentalists most want to do. They completely bypassed the stages of your automobiles and steam engines, and very early on concentrated their attention on sound. The sound they spoke of was sound that the ear cannot hear, that is, ultrasound or infrasound. The human ear can hear frequencies between 20 hertz and 20,000 hertz9 -- you hear me speaking and hear music all within this range. Below 20 hertz is called infrasound, and above 20,000 hertz is called ultrasound. We know that bats use ultrasound for echolocation.

The Prosperity and Inner Crisis of Lumania

This civilization had a name, called Lumania -- the Lumanians. This name itself has been passed down in legends, and you often see this word in ancient Western legends. As for when this civilization occurred, Seth did not give a specific time, but it should actually be a period at least tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of years ago. We are not certain now.

Why say hundreds of millions of years? In the Gabonese Republic in Africa10, people discovered a uranium mine -- the raw material used for atomic energy generation. What is very strange is that the uranium in this mine is no longer in the state it should be in nature, but rather like uranium that has already been used once -- after nuclear fission and decay, its purity and content are not what should exist in the natural world. Further discovery revealed that there was a very ancient nuclear reactor there, as if this place had originally been an ancient nuclear reactor that operated for tens of thousands of years. Through geological measurement and inference, it is believed that this nuclear reactor dates back to about 2 billion years ago. Of course, this is only one of the discoveries made by modern archaeologists.

Whether this nuclear reactor belonged to the first civilization or the second civilization, we do not know. From Seth's description, it should have belonged to the first civilization -- because the second civilization no longer did things that damaged the natural environment. The energy it used was basically natural energy like sound, not nuclear energy. Extrapolating from this assumption, how many years ago the second civilization, Lumania, actually existed after the end of the first civilization, we do not know -- it was not stated.

The Lumanians were a very frail people physically. Many people, when talking about aliens, often use the image of the little grey aliens as a metaphor -- a big head, a small body, very frail -- and actually many of these may be based on the physical image of these Lumanians. That is my guess. But psychically, they were either extremely gifted or completely mediocre, going to two extremes.

For some people, this preset control caused blockages in various energies, so that their innate telepathic abilities were also harmed. This part explains how this mediocrity came about: some people had already developed their abilities to a very high level, extremely gifted -- later it will be said that such gifts were simply beyond what we humans can attain; but some people were extremely mediocre, because after this preset removed the function of violence, some people became blocked in various energies, and their innate high telepathic abilities were also harmed, so they became very mediocre.

They formed an energy field around their own civilization, a kind of force field, and through this energy field they isolated themselves from other groups, cutting themselves off from other species.

But they did not let technology destroy themselves. Instead, more and more people came to realize that this experiment had not succeeded -- it was not like they blew themselves up with an atomic bomb, but rather many people discovered that after isolating themselves from other species in this way, and after removing the impulsive capacity for violence from the physical mechanism, this experiment had not succeeded. After it failed, some Lumanians left after physical death and no longer reincarnated. They felt that reincarnation was a joke -- doomed to fail, so why come back? Where did they go? They went to join those people from the previous successful civilization. Do not forget that these people were originally part of the group that migrated from the first civilization to other star systems, and when they came back to form the Lumanians, they modified themselves -- removing the violent and aggressive capacities. They wanted to achieve a better evolution and a higher level of civilization through this method, but in the end they found that this experiment was essentially a failure. Since it had failed, they felt that they were originally soul beings anyway, and since the material experiment had failed, there was no need to experiment again, so they left.

More and more people left, and fewer and fewer came to incarnate, and gradually this people disappeared on its own. Where did they go? They had already migrated to other star systems within the material universe.

However, some large groups, large numbers of people, left their cities and then destroyed the force field that had originally enclosed them. Where did they go? Some went to other planets and joined groups of lower civilizations, intermarrying and having children with them. These Lumanians quickly died out -- after intermarrying with the locals, after many generations of intermarriage, their abilities and bloodline also disappeared. Because they could not tolerate violence, nor could they retaliate in kind. But they felt that perhaps their variants -- some children -- could have less violent tendencies, without the inhibitory control nerve response abilities that were inherently fixed in them, just becoming slightly less violent.

So we can boldly guess: the roots of Buddhism, including the local Hinduism that preceded Buddhism -- Buddhism only stood out from the middle, and before becoming true Buddhism it absorbed many things from other religions. Buddhism did not arise out of thin air; it emerged from many primitive religions in India at the time. We can imagine that these Lumanians, after interbreeding with the local natives, produced people with very little aggression, and these may have become a low-aggression branch of the earliest primitive Indian people. This is my personal guess, without any basis.

This civilization essentially perished in this way, with only a few variant descendants later forming a small group.

In the next century, like the finders, they wandered in the company of a large group of animals of that era.

Only a small portion mingled with the animals, truly returning to a primitive state of life integrated with nature. If someone is an extreme environmentalist who does not harm the earth, does not use anything artificial, and wants everything to be purely natural -- if you push this to the extreme, then you can only go back to the jungle and live with the animals. They wandered in the company of animals, looking after one another. Because they themselves had no aggressiveness at all, the animals certainly did not harm them, and they did not harm the animals. The animals liked them, and they liked the animals. Moreover, many of them were still half-human and half-beast -- interbreeding with animals and producing many half-human, half-beast offspring. So those ancient legends -- the sphinx, the human-headed snake body11, including the many things in The Investiture of the Gods about humans and beasts interbreeding12 -- these ancient legends actually all come from that era. There really was such a period in that era.

In fact, these Lumanians were the remnants of the first great civilization -- a portion of the remnants of the first civilization that went to other planets and then came back. In their hearts, they forever retained a subconscious memory of their origins, always remembering how they came to be. This is why their technology advanced so quickly: because as descendants of the first highly developed civilization, they skipped the primitive development process of starting from zero, and inherently possessed the instincts of the first-generation civilization.

But because their purpose was so simplistic -- avoiding violence was their only purpose -- rather than constructively and peacefully developing creative potential. If their purpose had been to creatively and peacefully develop creative potential, rather than rejecting violence in a one-size-fits-all manner without distinction, it would have been different. This made their experience very one-sided. They were driven by such a fear of violence that they did not even dare to give the bodily system a chance for free expression. Many restrictions were added on the physical level -- no need for precepts, no need to observe precepts or keep precepts; it was all set in the body. Even if you did not want to observe them, you could not; you simply could not kill any living thing.

The vitality of this civilization was therefore very weak. It was not weak because violence did not exist; violence not existing could also have developed very well. The main thing was that the freedom of energy expression in the body was automatically blocked off along certain specific routes and directions.

As far as the human world is concerned, they understood very well the evil of violence. But they denied the individual the right to learn this point in his own way, and therefore prevented the individual's creative process of transforming violence into constructive fields using their own methods. In this respect, free will was abandoned.

This passage is very crucial: violence is not good, but people must, in practice, through doing wrong things, truly feel and realize that violence is not good -- rather than being forced not to do violent things. If you castrate the capacity for violence on the physical level, on the nervous system level, then at the same time you castrate all his other capacities -- all capacity for action, all capacity for free expression. Without violence there is no motivation, not even the motivation to express, not even the capacity to act.

So what should the correct approach be? Whether violence is good or not, let him experience it in practice. This brings us back to what was said in the previous two sections, which is the question raised in Conversations with God: goodness is good, but one must experience evil13 in order to know the goodness of good. If you do not let him do a single evil thing, or if there is no evil in this world, he cannot experience the goodness of good at all. This meaning applied here is probably the same principle: violence and aggression are not good, and people must learn this themselves in practice -- rather than castrating it physically and psychically. That is too simple and crude, too direct.

Just as a child, after being born from the mother's womb, has a period during which his body has resistance to certain diseases, so likewise after birth there is a period during which he is also protected from psychic disasters, and also, in order to set his mind at ease, he still carries memories of past lives and places.

For example, when a mother gives birth to a child, the child does not get sick for the first six months after birth, because it carries antibodies from the mother's body -- about six months or so. During these six months it basically will not get sick; this is a kind of protection for it. But this protection cannot last forever. When the time comes, it must be allowed to produce its own antibodies and face the world on its own.

Similarly, on the psychic level, in order to protect him from harm, what was done? He was given memories of past lives, memories of previous incarnations. They feared that after birth he would be very fragile psychically, very fearful, very fearful of society and life. At this time they told him: you are actually not a child; who you were in past lives, how powerful you were before, who is behind you? Your backing is All That Is; even if you die, it is all right -- in order to prevent this child from being harmed psychically, they gave him all the memories of past lives. This is the characteristic of this civilization: they did not want to be harmed, and they were also afraid of being harmed, so they gave him the past civilizations and histories, and past lives. But we humans are not like this. Humans erase everything from the start, making you forget all your past, all your roots, where you came from.

Therefore, for several generations the Lumanians were supported by memories of the past civilization deeply hidden in the subconscious, so their civilization developed quickly -- they remembered the past civilization, and they had the ability to retrieve it from the subconscious, because that was how they had designed it at the time. But in the end these memories began to weaken, and as they were passed down from generation to generation, the memories of the past civilization began to weaken.

They had protected themselves from violence, but not from fear. This was the root of their final demise. They wanted to protect themselves from being attacked by violence, and also not to use violence to attack others; that was the starting point. They discovered they had made a mistake: they only sought to be free from violence, not free from fear. What should have been done was not to fear violence itself, but to be free from fear. This is the lesson we humans should now learn; this is the homework we need to study: do not fear violence itself; instead, remove the fear.

Thus they had to suffer all the fears of ordinary humans, and these fears were even intensified. Because physically, they could not respond violently even to nature. If attacked, they had to flee -- fight or flight did not apply to them; in their dictionary it was always flight. Not only could they not use violence against animals, they could not use violence against nature either. When natural disasters came, they could not resist; they could only flee. When floods came, you could not build dams to block them; you could only run. When any natural disaster came, you could not fight against nature. They had no way to respond, so they were afraid. They not only had all the fears of humans, but their fears were intensified.

Because they themselves could not use violence, how could they protect themselves? So they had a symbol of a god, a powerful, strong male image. Since they could not protect themselves, they needed a god to protect them. Over the years, as their beliefs evolved, they projected onto him those qualities they themselves could not express -- violence. This god must have been very fierce. Much later, this god appeared in the manner of the old Yahweh, becoming the wrathful god who protected the chosen people.

These people's fear of the forces of nature was initially extremely strong, and a sense of separation formed between people and the natural forces that nourished them. We know that the forces of nature nourish people, but because they could not resist nature, could not resist nature either, they were especially fearful, and a very strong sense of alienation developed between them and nature. They could not trust the earth, because they were not permitted to fight against the violence within it to protect themselves.

Their extensive technology and great civilization were mostly underground -- because they did not believe in living on the surface of the earth; above ground was unsafe. If we look at it from this angle, they were the origin of the most primitive cave dwellers. Their cities were built underground, and they had to come out through caves; the caves were the entrances and exits to their cities. Caves were not merely places where unskilled natives crouched inside seeking shelter; those caves were gateways to the cities of the Lumanians -- enter the cave and walk inward, and suddenly everything opens up, and a huge city unfolds before you.

Long after these cities were abandoned, later uncivilized natives found these caves and lived in them. This is how the caves in which we think primitive people lived came to be -- such enormous caves were not naturally formed; they were artificially made. In what we now call the Stone Age, those cave dwellers and Upper Cave people who are regarded as our ancestors often did not seek shelter in crude natural caves, but in the mechanical passageways behind the caves and in the abandoned cities where the Lumanians once lived.

The tools made by the cave dwellers were also deformed imitations of finished products they had found.

We think that those Upper Cave people, Peking Man, and Lantian Man lived in primitive caves on mountaintops, like the caves where wild boars and wild bears live, which are natural. Actually, that is not so; those caves were all artificially made. They not only lived in the caves, but also lived behind the caves -- through a long passageway, inside a huge city. Although this city had long been abandoned by the Lumanians, it was still there. Part of the Lumanians went to other planets and did not return, and part intermingled with the local natives, and at the same time they shut down the energy field that protected the civilization, so outsiders could enter. After many, many more ages, later primitive people found these artificially formed caves, and not only lived inside the caves, but lived in the huge abandoned cities behind the caves.

Actually, if you think about it simply, you can understand: if they were natural caves, how could there be so many natural caves for the Upper Cave people and primitive humans of that time to live in? A single cave could not house many people. So it was not just the few caves you see; behind the caves there was a whole other world.

We now have a preliminary understanding of the first and second civilizations of ancient humanity. In the next section, we will continue to introduce the more specific civilization and technological development of the Lumanians, and what kind of level and degree it actually was.

Session 563

The Lumanian Outposts and the Giants

We now turn to Session 563 of the book. This session continues from the previous one on the Lumanians, the second human civilization in Earth's history.

Although the Lumanian civilization was highly concentrated, they had no intention of conquering others or expanding over a larger area -- their high concentration meant they were concentrated in one rather specific region, and they did not push their civilization across the entire planet -- yet over several hundred years, they did establish outposts. They did not expand into every region of the globe, but they set up outposts in various places around the world. From there, they could emerge and keep watch on the movements of other native peoples.

These outposts were built underground, from the initial cities to large colonial areas, and of course there were underground passageways connecting them to the sentry posts. This was an extremely intricate and beautiful tunnel system, because they were a people who loved beauty. The tunnel walls were decorated with colored paintings and sketches, and along these inner branch passageways there were also sculptures on display. On the main arteries of the underground passageways there were colored paintings and sketches, and in the smaller branch passageways there were also sculptures, along with various lifting systems, some for carrying people, some for carrying goods.

However, it was not practical to build such tunnels out to those outposts. Those outposts were rather small, self-sufficient communities, and some of them were especially far from the main commercial activity. That is to say, there were no tunnel connections between these large cities and those outposts, because the distances were too great. So those outposts were basically small and self-sufficient, with no need for any kind of connection to the large cities.

These outposts were scattered in many regions, but a considerable number were located in what is now the Pyrenees mountain region of Spain. There were many reasons for setting up outposts, and one of them was that in the mountain regions there lived a race of enormous humanoid beings -- giants. During the same period as this second human civilization, there were also some giants living in that era, of very considerable size, and this race was called the giants. The Lumanians were timid by nature; they were originally quite timid and fearful. They did not like living in the outposts; no one wanted to go to the outposts, it was too frightening. They could not be aggressive, could not use violence, could not take any action, so sitting in the outposts watching the activities of these giants was actually quite terrifying. Only the bravest and most confident among them were sent to the outposts, and only for short-term assignments.

Seth did not give a date for the Lumanian civilization, but interestingly enough, in late June of 1971 -- when this book was being written it was 1970, and now this session is being discussed eight months later -- a story appeared in the newspapers, with photographs, about the unearthing of an enormous, nearly human skull in a cave in the French Pyrenees, close to the Spanish border14. This enormous skull was especially large, much larger than a normal human skull, meaning this was the skull of a giant. This implies that the Lumanians lived in the same period as the giants. So from this giant's skull one can infer the era in which the Lumanians lived. This skull was at least two hundred thousand years old, representing a race that had not been discovered before15. Archaeologists have hypothesized that several kinds of primitive humans lived in Europe at that time, and according to Earth's chronology they devised an ice age and a pre-ice-age glacial period -- there is no need to go into that in detail -- so one can roughly guess that the Lumanians lived approximately several hundred thousand years ago, though this is only speculation.

He says once again that these caves were used as portals to the outside. And what often appeared to be the floor of the cave -- this is quite interesting -- was actually made of a material that was opaque when viewed from the outside, but transparent when viewed from the inside looking out. The local natives used these caves as natural shelters to live in, and the Lumanians could then observe them from beneath the cave floor without any danger. The bottom of the cave, when you looked at it from the outside, appeared to be an opaque stone, like the stone of a cavern, but looking upward from beneath the stone it was transparent. So the Lumanians would sit beneath the cave floor and observe how the primitive people above lived.

Language, Communication, and a Sense of Powerlessness

These Lumanians were responsive to sounds that our ears cannot hear. Their special fear of violence intensified all their bodily functions to a terrifying degree, and they remained perpetually alert and on guard. Their hearing was extremely acute, able to pick up things we simply cannot hear.

This is rather difficult to explain -- they could use mental power to project a thought along certain frequencies, hurling it outward, a most remarkable art. Then, at a specific destination, this thought would be translated in many different ways, for example into shapes and colors, or into some kind of image. In a way that we cannot understand, their language was highly exclusive, making it very difficult to communicate with others, and they did not want to communicate with others either. This was because the pitch levels, frequency strata, and intervals of their language were all so precise and complex -- the frequency pitch of every sound in their language, including the intervals in between, including its strata, was all extremely precise and complex. Ordinary people found it very hard to communicate with them, let alone their contemporaries.

And in fact, communication was one of the things they excelled at most. He says the pitch levels, frequency strata, and intervals were so precise and complex -- doesn't this resemble our modern cell phones? The frequencies used for communication between two cell phones are extremely precise, extremely accurate, extremely intricate and complex. And it was precisely because of their deep fear of violence and their constant state of alertness that communication was able to develop to such a high degree -- they needed to communicate, to send word, to pass along warnings.

They often gathered together in large family clans, also out of timidity, for mutual protection. The contact between children and parents took place on a level of profound flesh-and-blood connection, of hearts joined as one. If a child was out of the parents' sight for even a little while, the child would feel extremely uncomfortable. This trait has been partially inherited by us humans: you can see that some human parents today are like this -- not all, only a very small portion of parents -- the child cannot leave their line of sight, and as soon as the child leaves their line of sight, their heart panics unbearably, always feeling that something bad is about to happen, always having ominous premonitions. The Lumanians were all like this.

Therefore, those who managed the outposts found themselves in a very uncomfortable state. Their numbers were limited, and for the most part they were isolated from the main regions of their own civilization -- because the outposts were self-sufficient, and there were no tunnels between them yet, so travel back and forth was very inconvenient. Therefore they developed an even greater telepathic activity, and developed a close sympathy with the land above their heads -- they communicated with the land, using telepathy. So above them, any unusual slightest vibration, footstep, or smallest movement would be immediately noticed. These Lumanians at the outposts developed their telepathic activity to the utmost, able to sense the most minute vibrations and movements on and within the land above.

Often they also had so-called peepholes that led to the surface, similar to the observation ports in a submarine, through which they could observe the outside world. They also placed cameras, like our surveillance cameras -- capturing the most precise images not only of the Earth but also of the stars. Of course, they kept complete records of the distribution and deployment of natural gas underground, and possessed intimate knowledge of the internal strata. As for the monitoring and prediction of earthquakes, fault lines, and meteors, they knew when earthquakes would occur. They descended underground just as successfully as any other race that had left the Earth had ever done. What does it mean to have left the Earth? It means those whose civilization had already developed to a very high degree -- their abilities were the same as those people's.

As I have told you, this was the second civilization, perhaps the most interesting of the three. The first civilization generally followed a line of development similar to your own, that is, high-tech development, and faced many of the same problems you are now facing. They were located for the most part in the place you call Asia Minor, that is, around the region of Asia, but they also spread outward, traveling to other territories. These were the people I mentioned earlier, who eventually went to other galaxies and other planets. It was they who founded the Lumanian civilization, meaning the second civilization was descended from the first.

The Multi-Sensory Art of Lumania

Here he takes a bit of a rest and then continues. Before we discuss the third civilization, I want to add a few more points about the second one. What are the additions? They have to do with their use of pictures for communication.

Didn't he just say that they could use psychic power to toss some of their concepts, or some artworks, or some ideas to a specific location, and at that location restore them again, restoring them through images, sounds, and colors -- isn't this like a projection of consciousness? It is also related to the very exclusive approach they used in this kind of creative communication.

In many ways, their art was far superior to yours, and not so isolated. The various art forms were connected to one another in ways you hardly know -- what he means by not isolated is that artworks are not like what we say, that a painting is just a painting, a sculpture is just a sculpture, music is just music, and these are unrelated. But at the artistic level of the Lumanians, they found the connections within art itself. And because human beings are so unfamiliar with this concept, it is very hard for him to explain just what level the art of the Lumanians actually reached.

After that he gives an example to illustrate what level the art of the Lumanians reached. Take something very simple, like the sketch of an animal. You humans look at it and see only a visual object, but the Lumanians were great combiners. A single line was not just a visual line, but was made according to an almost infinite number of different distinctions and differentiations -- what we see as one line, for them, represented this many meanings. It also represented certain sounds, and was automatically translated. An observer looking at this sketch of an animal could automatically translate the sounds first. The moment he looked at the painting, the sounds carried within the lines would emerge. And this happened before he even paid attention to the visual image -- in other words, the sound was not obtained through vision.

That is, he used lines to draw a sketch, and if the artistic level of this sketch was high enough, or the informational energy attached to it was high enough, then every single line represented a meaning, represented a sound. It was not that he had to see the line before he could translate the sound -- no, the line itself would automatically cause the person seeing it to produce the sound. Thus in a sketch that appeared to be only of an animal, it could actually provide the entire history and background of that animal. It was a hologram. All the information about this animal from birth to death was in this one painting, even its calls, its past life, including the background in which the animal lived, all of it was in there.

He says that in a painting, the curves, angles, and lines, in addition to their obvious objective functions, also all represented a very complex series of variations in pitch, timbre, tone value, and so on, or if you prefer, you could say they represented invisible writing. The distances between the lines were translated into pauses in sound -- there have to be pauses between sounds, and the distances between the lines were what indicated the pauses -- and sometimes they were also distances in time. This sentence has meaning again: time is clearly not space, and only space can have distance, yet he keeps telling you that this represented distance in time, so this sentence itself already transcends space and time.

The colors in the pictures were used like a language in communication, and represented roughly the emotional levels that our colors represent. The brightness and darkness of color intensity were used for further modification and definition, defining the emotional levels. For example, the information conveyed by the objective value of strengthened lines, angles, and curves, as well as the information conveyed by the aforementioned invisible writing that was strengthened, or modified in any way, strengthened again, modified again, corrected -- so you know how many meanings this painting represented. The size of such a painting also carried its own information.

On the other hand, this was also a very formalized art -- why were even the size and the lines of this painting endowed with so very many meanings? We could call it a very formalized art. But in terms of detail, it permitted extremely precise expression -- it was not the rigid, fixed pattern you might imagine. Although it followed a strict format, in its details it allowed you to make extremely precise expressions. As for the subject matter of the painting, it allowed great freedom as well. You could paint anything, express anything.

They were obviously extremely condensed and refined. This technique was later discovered by the third civilization -- after the second civilization disappeared, the third civilization discovered these ancient things. Therefore some remnants of imitations still exist, but the key to interpretation has been lost, completely lost. So all you can see is just a painting, because you cannot explain it, you do not know what it means anymore. The multi-sensory factors that endowed it with such great transformations have been lost -- because the person who painted this painting used multiple senses to paint it. Multiple senses means not just using vision; when it was created, it was not created with only one sense. He just said that every line represented a language, represented a sound, so it was itself created by multiple senses simultaneously. And when they looked at this painting, they did not just look with their eyes; they also felt the painting with multiple senses simultaneously. And this ability is gone, so when you see it, all that remains is just a painting. But it exists, and yet you cannot bring it back to life. You cannot see the essential meaning of this painting.

Perhaps I should mention here -- Seth starts giving some information again -- that some caves, especially in certain regions of Spain and the Pyrenees, and in some earlier caves in Africa, were artificially constructed. These people could move huge objects with sound -- using a high degree of control over sound to transport objects. This was also how their tunnels were formed: how did they dig tunnels? When a tunnel was dug, so much material came out, how did they transport it out? They used this kind of sound to control it. This was also how they built caves in places where there were originally few caves.

Usually, the paintings on the cave walls were highly formalized information, just like the signs we put in front of public buildings -- this is a library, this is a train station, this is an airport, this is a government building, this is a police station -- their use of paintings to represent the meaning of a cave was very similar to our meaning. And then, it depicted the types of animals and creatures in a certain region. In what we usually call the early period of history, scholars later took these paintings as models to copy -- if you are interested in prehistoric human civilization, you will find some early wall paintings, and those early wall paintings were copies of the paintings of these even earlier people.

Their ability to communicate -- still speaking of the second civilization -- and therefore their creative ability, was far more lively, more vital, and more sensitive than yours. When you hear a word, when we humans hear a word, we may perceive a corresponding image in our minds. For example, "apple," and you will have an image of an apple. But for the Lumanians, sound automatically and instantly created a surprisingly vivid image -- they did not need to translate it, did not need to imagine it; it happened automatically within. He says that sound directly turned into the image of that little animal in your mind. So he says that when they chatted, they all kept their eyes closed, because they were looking at the images transmitted back by that language. If you kept your eyes open, wouldn't those images overlap with the images your eyes were seeing, or interfere with each other? In order to communicate more clearly, they chatted with their eyes closed, enjoying the ever-changing inner visions that accompanied any verbal exchange.

They learned very quickly, and education was a very stimulating process -- because of this multi-sensory ability and equipment, they also had multi-sensory devices, just as we now have televisions and various kinds of players. These devices automatically imprinted information upon their minds, not through one sensory channel at a time, but through many sensory channels simultaneously.

Yet although they had all these strengths and such acute perception, they had an innate weakness -- as was already mentioned earlier -- of course, they could not face violence and learn to conquer it. This seriously hindered a certain outward-thrusting quality, and in these areas their energy was blocked. Therefore they indeed lacked a certain powerful quality, or a sense of power. In other words, they were powerless; the feeling they gave you was a sense of powerlessness. This sense of powerlessness was not just the frailty of their bodies, a physical sense of powerlessness, but rather that they spent so much energy avoiding violence -- in other words, they were unable to channel ordinary aggressive feelings into other areas, and their energy was blocked by themselves.

Session 565

Psychic Heritage and Leakage of Probabilities

Let's look at the next session first, because the one after it is very short. The previous session was still on December 7, 1970, and the next one is Session 565, already on February 1, 1971, with several weeks in between. Why the gap of several weeks? Because Christmas was coming right up -- Christmas in America is like our Chinese Spring Festival, a very important holiday -- and with Christmas plus New Year, two or three weeks went by. They did not hold classes during that time. In that period, they also had ESP classes and two private sessions. There was also travel, and Rob's father became critically ill. This whole series of events caused the interruption of several weeks.

So now let's begin the content of this session.

I have spoken about certain details concerning the Lumanians. Why speak about these details? Because they are part of your psychic heritage, and they are connected to us. The other two civilizations -- the first civilization and the third civilization -- were in many respects more successful than the second. But the powerful intent behind the Lumanian experiment was highly volatile. Although they were unable to solve what they called the problem of violence in our reality -- our reality is the three-dimensional reality; they could not solve this problem of violence in our physical reality -- nevertheless, their intense desire to do so still echoes today within our psychic environment.

This is a very crucial point. Why do we, deep in our hearts, dislike violence so much now? Why do we not glorify violence? Why do we prefer peace? Here we find the root -- we came from this. This kind of longing still echoes within our psychic environment. In other words, deep within each of us there is a hope for peace, a wish against war, a dislike of violence. This is our psychic heritage; there is no way around it.

Because of the nature of time -- what is the nature of time? It is simultaneity; past, present, and future are simultaneous. If we calculate according to the developmental time of the human earth, then according to the nature of time, the Lumanians exist just as they did before. That is to say, this world -- whether we say it was hundreds of thousands of years ago or hundreds of millions of years ago, it does not matter -- that is calculated according to earth time. If we look at it from a higher dimensional level, all these things are happening simultaneously. So the things that happened in that era are still happening today, except that they are happening within their own space-time.

In the psychic atmosphere there are often leakages -- he said earlier that our psyche is their heritage. In the psychic atmosphere of the Lumanians, who loved peace and hated violence, at the same point in time as ours -- because time is simultaneous, our present lives and theirs are happening at the same time. Because our psyches are connected, and this connection sometimes produces leakage. This leakage is not incidental -- it happens frequently -- but rather a certain affinity causes this effect to leap across two systems that appear to be quite separate. Why is it not incidental? Because we have a certain affinity with the Lumanians, and within this affinity, a certain connection is established between two completely different systems that appear to be quite separate. This connection is called leakage. Therefore, between yourselves and the Lumanian civilization, there is this kind of leakage.

For example, several ancient religions picked up the image of the Lumanians' violent god. The Lumanians imagined their god as a very violent, very powerful figure who greatly revered martial force -- because they themselves lacked this power, they hoped their god would protect them. So they projected their concepts of power, might, and violence onto the image of the god. When nonviolence did not permit them to protect themselves, they hoped for a god to protect them. That god was then picked up by later ancient religions. So why do I suspect that much of Hinduism is a continuation of this Lumanian element? Because if you notice, several of the Hindu gods are extremely cruel, extremely fierce, and enormously powerful -- Krishna, Shiva, and another one I forget -- they are very formidable, very fierce.

It can be said that right now a leakage is occurring. In the formation of this leakage, you will catch glimpses of the Lumanians' multidimensional concepts of art and communication -- this is also why, at the end of the previous session, he repeatedly discussed their artistic painting and their communication; it was meaningful. But we have only seen a crude form of it. Even if it is only a crude form, in the leakage between us and the Lumanians in art and communication, you will find that the development of human communication has indeed surpassed other levels, has it not? Our cell phones and the internet today -- in the last ten or twenty years, other technologies have not made much substantial progress. The cars we drive are still the cars of before; although there are some electric vehicles, the principles have basically not changed. Our means of transportation have not changed much compared with decades ago; houses have not changed in any essential way; food and education have not improved much either. What alone, what alone has changed the most? You can understand it yourselves -- it is communication. Our communication industry has changed enormously.

We have already reached the state the Lumanians wanted. We can make video calls, so there is no need to go to such great lengths as they did, using psychic power to project a concept to a distant place and then reconstruct it there. We do not need to. We pick up our phones, turn on video calling, and the call goes through directly, no matter where that person is, anywhere on earth, even in outer space or on Mars. When he wrote this book, it was February 1, 1971. You see, in 1971, technology had not yet shown much direction. The internet was in 1969, when the most primitive ARPANET was just beginning16, just taking its initial shape. At that time, telephones were still ordinary wired telephones; cell phones had not yet been invented, but we already had radio communication, microwave communication, could launch satellites, could land on the moon, and could achieve image transmission through communication with the moon. We were also exceptionally advanced in communication, but at the time we did not know where this advancement came from. Now we know -- Seth already predicted that humans would make very great progress in the fields of communication and art, relative to other areas. So the way our technological development is now, you can also understand -- that is the underlying relationship.

The Reality of Probabilities

Because of the nature of probabilities -- what is possible? That is, the nature that all probabilities coexist -- there is also a reality system in which the Lumanians' experiment with nonviolence succeeded, and in that one a completely different kind of humanity was born. In the reality system in which we on Earth currently live as humans, they failed. But according to the multiverse view, when the possibility of multiple parallel universes existing comes into play, in another parallel universe of time and space, the experiment the Lumanians carried out succeeded, the experiment of nonviolent transformation succeeded, and then a completely different new humanity was born. This possibility exists. In our reality, however, they failed.

All of this seems very strange to you, even more unfathomable than the most esoteric book, more like fiction than fiction, impossible to imagine. It is only because your concept of existence is so specific and narrow -- we think existence means that at a particular time a particular thing happened, and that is a historical event. But he tells you that all probabilities are happening, and then you feel this is impossible, very strange. The concepts of probable realities and probable humans and gods seem utterly absurd to people like us.

He then goes on to give an example: when you are reading this book, when you are reading this book, listening to this book, you are only one of the probable yous. The you who is reading the book is only one of the probable yous. Perhaps another you has gone to the mall, or gone shopping, or gone to school, gone to work, and yet another you may be sitting at home listening to this. He says the you of this present moment is only one among the probabilities. The other probable yous naturally would not think that the you who is reading is real -- the you who is watching a movie would not think that the you who is reading is real; he thinks he is watching a movie, and no you who is reading exists. Because at that time he struggled for a moment over whether to watch a movie or read, and he decided to watch the movie, so the you who is reading does not exist in his world. Perhaps some would angrily question your existence.

However, the probable system of reality is not merely a philosophical question -- it is not a philosophical category for us to discuss; it is simply a fact. If you are interested in the nature of your own reality, then it becomes a matter of very personal and vital importance -- that is, the possibility of your existing in multiple locations, the existence of parallel universes, becomes a matter of personal and vital importance to you, and you will consider this question.

Just as certain traits of the Lumanians still exist in the atmosphere of our psyche -- that longing for peace, that opposition to violence -- they still include our reverence for art and our pursuit of art. Art, in fact, by all reasoning, neither serves as food nor as drink; it cannot solve any substantive problems of human development; it only enhances our aesthetic sensibility. Yet our human reverence for art exceeds our fondness for other things. In this regard, we are also especially willing to develop communication, and this ability has developed very well.

Just as your cities still coexist with the land you now call your own -- the cities of the Lumanians, just like their psychological influence upon us, still exist upon this land of ours. Not in this time and space, of course, but in another time and space, yet still existing right in this place. Thus the identities of other probabilities also coexist with the identity you now call your own -- if even the cities of the Lumanians can still exist alongside our land, then your other probable yous also exist simultaneously with the you of the present. In the next chapter we will discuss you and your probable selves.

Then, below, he has a note, and this note is also crucial. The Lumanians were a civilization that existed even more ancient than the age of Atlantis, the second of three highly technological civilizations on this planet. In Session 563 Seth mentioned that he would soon discuss the third of these civilizations. But the material on this third civilization was never received, and it was never mentioned again -- because there was a gap of nearly over a month, from December 7 all the way to February 1, nearly five weeks. Had the previous two sessions of this book not been separated by so long, this material might have been transmitted to us. Jane and Rob simply forgot to ask him for this material, so the material on the third civilization was never mentioned again in the Seth material. We have no way of knowing what this third civilization was, but he will tell you that this third civilization was not Atlantis, because all three of these civilizations were before Atlantis, matters even more ancient and remote.

Regarding the several civilizations of humanity in ancient times, he has already given a brief introduction: he focused on the second, briefly passed over the first, and also mentioned the third -- actually they are similar to us; the first and third civilizations are relatively close to us, while the second was quite different. As for this knowledge, you may ask, how am I supposed to know where to find it? You need not worry. When you connect with your inner self, when one day you can control the focus of your consciousness freely, when one day your abilities expand to a great extent, you will have the ability to observe the entire developmental history of Earth's civilizations. Everyone has this ability; you just do not possess it yet, and you need not be anxious. One day, after you possess this ability, you can personally experience those glorious human civilizations of Earth in the chronicles of this planet.
