Research Program / Claims / trance-state-4

People unknowingly enter light trance states multiple times in daily life, for example when fully absorbed in watching television.

人在日常生活中会不自觉多次进入浅层恍惚状态,例如全神贯注看电视时。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Approximately 300 participants would complete 21 days of ecological momentary assessment, with 6–8 random prompts per day measuring absorption, external awareness, mind-wandering, and time perception. Of these, 120 would complete laboratory comparisons of television viewing, reading, standard hypnosis, and a wakeful baseline. Pre-registered latent-variable models and cross-condition prediction would test whether these experiences share a common structure and estimate their daily frequency. The total duration would be 12 months. All moments of absorption must not first be defined as trance and then used to report a high occurrence rate.

What it would overturn
Evidence of a common mechanism would revise the hypothesis that everyday absorption and experimental hypnotic responses involve distinct latent processes, although this hypothesis is itself not a consensus in the field.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
“Multiple times daily” gives a directional indication of frequency but lacks episode durations and identification criteria. Calling absorption during television viewing a light trance is primarily a classificatory choice.
Note
Similarity between everyday absorption and hypnosis is insufficient to establish identical neural mechanisms, suggestibility, or state boundaries.
