Belief determines whether one can enter a specific state of consciousness: if one does not believe that one can become lucid in a dream, then that experience is relatively unlikely.

信念决定能否进入特定意识状态:若不相信自己能在梦中变得清醒,那这一体验相对不可能。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Pre-registered multicenter 2×2 randomized trial, approximately 600 people: positive efficacy expectation or neutral introduction, cross-randomized with MILD training or equal-duration control; all groups maintain the same nighttime awakening procedure. Baseline 2 weeks, intervention 4 weeks, follow-up 4 weeks; daily records of expectation, compliance, dream recall, and lucid dreams; ~120 people complete polysomnography and predefined eye-movement signal verification. Primary test is the independent effect of expectation on objectively verified incidence, and whether it is mediated by compliance; stratified by baseline belief.

Expectancy and Mnemonic Training in Lucid Dream Induction: A Pre-registered Multicentre Randomized Trial
What it would overturn
If belief has an independent effect after training, compliance, and dream recall are equal, it will modify models that explain lucid dream induction entirely by prospective memory training and sleep conditions, but such an exclusive model is not an established consensus.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
Gives the direction of belief's effect on occurrence probability, but no effect size, threshold, or boundary conditions; it is not more specific than a general expectancy effect hypothesis. 'Determines' is much stronger than existing evidence.
Note
Review as of September 6, 2026; 'contested' here means relevant training is effective while the independent causal explanation of belief is unresolved; 'untested' throughout refers to no direct test detected, not proof that no one has studied it; sample sizes are planned magnitudes and require power analysis with minimal meaningful effect and dropout rate.
