Research Program / Claims / sleep-1

Sleep is the relative rest of the entity from idea construction; apart from the minimum required for physical survival, the entity ceases most idea-construction activities during sleep.

睡眠是存有对观念构造的相对休息,除维持肉体生存所需的最小限度外,存有在睡眠中停止大部分观念构造活动。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
The original version has no direct adjudicating experiment. If 'idea construction' is limited to spontaneous imagery, semantic combination, and problem-solving, approximately 100 adults could be recruited, each recording 4 nights of high-density EEG, with random awakenings by sleep stage, collecting immediate experience reports, and comparing with quiet wakefulness. Pre-register the report coding, mental activity indices, and the proportion threshold for 'ceasing most'; project duration about 12 months. Brain activity level cannot be directly equated with number of ideas.
Suggested paper title
Stage-Resolved Changes in Spontaneous Mentation and Cognitive Processing Across Sleep and Wakefulness
What it would overturn
If it were confirmed that cognitive processing during sleep is generally reduced to mere survival maintenance, this would revise the dominant model that 'sleep supports ongoing offline information processing and memory processing'.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
'Entity', 'idea construction', and 'most' are undefined, with no quantitative predictions; if translated directly as the brain or mind largely shutting down, it conflicts with existing evidence.
Note
Search as of 2026-09-06; the status below applies to the core proposition of the claim, adjacent evidence does not equal full confirmation; 'untested' means no direct research found or not yet operationalizable, not proof that absolutely no one has studied it; all proposed sample sizes are planning magnitudes and require formal power analysis.
