Research Program / Claims / point-of-power-5

Minimize the importance of problems as much as possible; forget the problem and it will disappear; mentally downplay obstacles and they truly become smaller; exaggerate obstacles and they swiftly become enormous.

尽量减少问题的重要性,忘掉问题它就会消失;在心中淡化障碍它们就真的变小,夸大障碍它们会迅速变成庞然大物。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Combine supplementary questions 1 and 5: pre-register about 300 people, randomly assigned to neutral description, decentering, catastrophizing, or active problem-solving instructions; measure subjective severity of personal problems, problem-solving behavior, and objective consequences separately; follow up for four weeks. Additionally, use physically size-fixed threatening and neutral images in a two-alternative size discrimination task, estimating subjective equivalence points, discrimination thresholds, and response bias; manipulate low-risk anxiety states, matching arousal, gaze, and image features. About 120 people complete fMRI, with predefined default-mode network and amygdala indices, distinguishing task activity and resting-state connectivity. Project duration about 12–18 months; network correlations serve only as mechanistic clues.
Suggested paper title
Decentering and Threat Appraisal Alter Subjective Problem Magnitude and Visual Size Judgments: A Preregistered Multimodal Study
What it would overturn
If merely attenuating cognition eliminates objective problems while behavior and external conditions remain unchanged, it would revise the hypothesis that 'cognitive reappraisal primarily changes experience and action, not directly external problems.'

Specificity of Seth's formulation
Subjective obstacles becoming smaller overlaps with cognitive reappraisal and threat-bias hypotheses; 'forgetting leads to disappearance' is stronger if referring to objective consequences, but the original text does not distinguish feelings, judgments, actions, and external facts.
Note
Size-report bias need not equal altered early visual representation; decentering, thought suppression, and negative avoidance are not the same intervention and must be operationalized separately.
