Research Program / Claims / hypnosis-5

A person's beliefs are like a hypnotic focus; daily inner self-talk continually reinforces these beliefs, and one is one's own hypnotist.

人的信念如同催眠的焦点,日常内在自我对话不断强化这些信念,人自己就是自己的催眠师。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
400 participants take part in a 2×2 randomized experiment: repeated self-statements or matched external statements, combined with self-hypnosis induction or waking instructions; 10 minutes daily for 14 days, then providing reliable counterevidence and a 4-week follow-up. Measures of belief conviction, evidence updating, rumination, and absorption; content restricted to low-risk, verifiable topics. Total duration 9–12 months, testing whether a hypnotic-specific effect exists beyond repetition fluency and expectancy.
Suggested paper title
Repeated Inner Speech, Hypnotic Induction, and Belief Updating: A Pre-registered Factorial Experiment
What it would overturn
If an independent and necessary hypnotic mechanism is found, it would modify the model that "belief enhancement by repetition is mainly explained by processing fluency, memory, and motivation."

Specificity of Seth's formulation
"Repetition strengthens beliefs" is testable but not unique; "everyone is their own hypnotist" if merely a metaphor has no additional prediction, but if a claim of mechanistic identity requires process-level evidence.
Note
Corresponds to supplementary question 2: Rumination, belief-updating difficulties, and hypnosis cannot be equated; the [SMART Lab](https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/groups/psychology/smartlab/take-part/) currently studies the effects of different brief psychological methods on repetitive negative thinking.
