Research Program / Claims / guilt-2

Natural guilt depends on memory; in a 'moment of reflection' it evaluates past, present, and future contexts, thereby avoiding repetition of inappropriate behavior.

自然罪恶感依赖记忆,在“反省的一刻”中评估过去、现在与未来的情境,从而避免重复不当行为。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Conduct a pre-registered fMRI study with about 240 participants, comparing recollection of one's own wrongdoing, equally negative but non-responsibility-related memories, imagination of future similar situations, and neutral memories. Match vividness, arousal, and event age. Test associations between guilt intensity and hippocampal–medial prefrontal activity and connectivity. Randomly add episodic detail retrieval training, and measure repeated wrongdoing choices with real costs at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. Use behavioral change as the primary endpoint and replicate in an independent sample.

Episodic Recollection, Anticipated Guilt, and Repeated Transgression: A Preregistered fMRI Study
What it would overturn
General results will not overturn mainstream theories; only if episodic memory proves necessary would it revise the sufficiency assumption that semantic norms and responsibility evaluation alone can produce guilt.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
Compatible with autobiographical memory, counterfactual thinking, and anticipatory guilt models, but 'the moment of reflection' adds no extra timescale or unique neural prediction.
Note
'Supported' applies only to the weak version that memory can induce guilt and guilt can regulate subsequent behavior; the proposed fMRI correlation analysis is feasible, but brain-region activation alone cannot prove preventive function or necessity of memory.
