Research Program / Claims / guilt-11

Disease, poverty, and similar conditions are moralized and associated with guilt, but this results from distorted ideas rather than natural guilt.

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Recruit approximately 1,600 people across four cultures. Randomly present sick/healthy and poor/non-poor targets, independently manipulating situational controllability and personal responsibility. Measure moral evaluation, helping choices, and implicit associations of patient-immorality and poverty-immorality. Also measure observers' own guilt and their inferences about the target's guilt. Add corrective information about structural causes or causes of poverty. Retest after 1 month. Duration 12–18 months.
Suggested paper title
Moralization of Illness and Poverty: A Preregistered Cross-Cultural Study of Implicit Associations and Responsibility Attribution
What it would overturn
General results conform to attribution theory; only if guilt retains a necessary causal role after controlling for controllability, disgust, and just-world beliefs would it revise models that stigmatization can form without guilt involvement.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
That disease and poverty are moralized is not a unique prediction; classifying it as 'artificial guilt' lacks independent criteria, and 'distorted ideas' includes normative judgments requiring separate justification.
Note
The phenomenological level has support, but the full causal and classificatory claims are not established; the proposed IAT can measure relative associations but cannot directly measure the respondent's current 'implicit guilt,' requiring separate construct validity verification.
