Adjudicating experiment
Test the propositions separately: about 60 participants each undergo repeated neuroimaging during waking viewing, waking imagination, and sleep-onset dream reports to test whether cross-state decoding and perturbation effects are equivalent; another approximately 150 participants record dreams over 12 weeks, with pre-registered indices of spatial relationships and cross-night stability, controlling for familiar environments and repeated memory. If claiming persistence independent of personal memory, further tests with isolated participants and previously unknowable scene changes are needed; simply repeatedly dreaming of the same location cannot adjudicate the ontological claim. Project duration 18–24 months.

What it would overturn
If an independently shared persistent dream environment is confirmed after excluding common experience and information leakage, it would challenge the assumption that dream scenes are generated by individual neural representations.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
'Persistence' is quantifiable; 'established in the same way' if it only refers to neural representation overlap is already similar to existing hypotheses, but if it means objects and dream images are physically co-origin, it lacks a testable mechanism.
Note
One must first clarify whether 'physical body image' refers to the actual material body or the mental representation of the body; the scientific implications of the two interpretations are entirely different.
