Research Program / Claims / automatic-writing-1
Automatic writing movements arise from the individual's subconscious muscular movements. The subconscious must first be given the suggestion that it will use the hand to write about any selected topic; this usually occurs in a light trance state.
自动书写动作由个人潜意识肌肉运动引起,须先暗示潜意识将利用手书写任何所选主题,通常发生在轻入神状态。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Pre-register a crossover experiment involving 120 participants stratified by hypnotic susceptibility. Compare specific suggestion wording, neutral suggestions, relaxation induction, and deliberate simulation of involuntary writing across four sessions over two weeks. Simultaneously record 128-channel EEG, forearm electromyography, and digital writing-tablet data at a sampling rate of at least 200 Hz. Prespecify motor-area μ/β rhythms, pen pressure, acceleration, and the subjective sense of involuntariness as endpoints; include copying conditions matched for speed and text to control for motor differences. Test the default mode network hypothesis separately in an fMRI substudy of approximately 60 participants; scalp EEG alone cannot localize this network.
Suggested paper title
Effects of Suggestion and Expectancy on Handwriting Agency, Cortical Activity, and Movement Kinematics: A Preregistered Crossover Study
What it would overturn
The core result would not overturn mainstream cognitive science but would refine models in which action generation and the sense of control over action can dissociate. If the specific suggestion proves indispensable, the assumption that general expectancy alone can induce a sense of involuntariness would require revision.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
Ideomotor action and suggestion effects are not unique to Seth. “Must first be given the suggestion” and “usually in a light trance” are more specific, but the necessity of the former has not been established, and the latter lacks prevalence data from representative samples.
Note
The label supported applies only to the core claim that suggestion can induce a sense of involuntariness in writing and to its neural correlates; it does not indicate that every qualification in the sentence is supported. All subsequent uses of untested mean that this search found no direct test, not that no one has ever studied the claim. All proposed sample sizes must be recalculated using pilot data and a prespecified minimum effect size.
