In out-of-body projection, one may see the physical form just left and mistake it for a death image, potentially eliciting fear.

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
Approximately 240 participants undergo a pre-registered 2×2 VR experiment: external view of oneself / first-person perspective, combined with a mild death-related explanation / neutral body-illusion explanation; measure immediate fear, death attribution, skin conductance, heart rate, and death anxiety one week later; project duration 9–12 months. Additionally, recruit approximately 100 recent spontaneous out-of-body experiencers for interviews within one month that contain no induction wording; independently code whether they saw themselves, whether they mistook it for death, and the temporal sequence of fear, to assess VR generalizability.
Suggested paper title
Self-Observation and Mortality Appraisal During Virtual Out-of-Body Experiences: A Preregistered Factorial Experiment
What it would overturn
This does not overturn mainstream hypotheses; the result is compatible with the model that 'body self-representation and cognitive appraisal jointly influence fear.'

Specificity of Seth's formulation
As an experiential description of 'possibly seeing oneself and producing death-related emotion,' it is compatible with autoscopic phenomena and threat-appraisal models; the specific pathway of 'mistaken death identification causing fear' still requires direct testing.
Note
'supported' refers only to the experiential core and cannot be extended to a real entity leaving the body; the three links of seeing oneself, believing one is dead, and generating fear have not yet been fully validated as a causal chain by the cited papers.
