Randomly assign about 300 participants to free-association, analytical-judgment, and neutral-observation groups for identical weak-target and no-target visual tasks, duration 6 months. Balance expectancy of success across groups, preregister primary endpoint as sensitivity d′, secondary endpoints as false alarm rate, confidence, and subjective experience; about 90 participants add EEG. Only if accuracy improves without false alarms being explained does it support a stronger perceptual ability interpretation.
