Altered states of consciousness change the direction in which consciousness is focused, without changing consciousness itself, instead directing it toward different dimensions or levels.

变性意识状态改变的是意识聚焦方向,不改变意识本身,而是将意识导向不同维度或层级。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
First define “direction of focus” as the allocation of internal and external attention, and separately operationalize “consciousness itself remains unchanged” as equivalence in level of consciousness, metacognitive accuracy, and cross-modal information integration. Approximately 120 participants would complete a randomized crossover experiment involving inward attention, hypnosis, and active relaxation, recording EEG, perceptual thresholds, and experiential reports over 6 months. Pre-register equivalence bounds and compare an “attention changes only” model with a “multidimensional state changes” model. This can adjudicate only the operationalized version; “other dimensions” cannot be directly adjudicated without an independently measurable definition.

Attentional Reorientation and Changes in Conscious Processing Across Induced Altered States: A Pre-registered Crossover Study
What it would overturn
Demonstrating that all state changes are explained solely by attentional redirection would revise the multidimensional model in which “altered states of consciousness involve changes in arousal, integration, and metacognitive mechanisms beyond attention.”

Specificity of Seth's formulation
“Focus” overlaps with attentional modulation hypotheses but provides no dimensional coordinates, entry conditions, or exclusive predictions. It currently offers no more clearly discriminating predictions than existing models.
Note
Throughout the table, classifications are based on the core assertion of each original claim. Untested means that the present search found no direct test; it does not establish that no one worldwide has studied the claim. Related papers may support only a clause or provide counterevidence. All listed experiments are proposals, and sample sizes require confirmation through power analysis. The who field does not indicate that the researchers concerned endorse Seth.
