Research Program / Claims / a-1-1

A-1 is a level of consciousness immediately adjacent to normal waking consciousness, only one step away from it. Everyone has unconsciously slipped into it at some point.

A-1是紧邻正常醒时意识的一个意识层面,与正常意识仅一步之遥,所有人都曾不自觉滑入其中。

This program treats the Seth Material as a source of hypotheses, not as doctrine to be validated. Lead dossiers are AI-compiled from the corpus with a book-and-session citation after every statement; literature reviews are AI web-search summaries whose references were all DOI-verified against Crossref; the agenda draft is an AI synthesis. None of it is Seth's original text, and none of it represents scientific consensus. English fields are machine-translated; the Chinese text is authoritative.

Adjudicating experiment
First fix the A-1 induction script and experience criteria with an independent pilot sample, then pre-register a multi-center study: approximately 240 ordinary participants and 60 experienced practitioners, randomized order comparing A-1 induction, eyes-open/eyes-closed wakefulness, relaxation, meditation, hypnosis, and polysomnography-confirmed N1; each person undergoes 4–6 visits over 18 months. Record 64–128-channel EEG, EOG, and EMG; pre-register alpha power, source-space connectivity, and coherence metrics with zero-phase contamination removed; approximately 120 additional participants undergo fMRI to compare default mode, salience, and executive networks, with cross-individual and cross-center validation to examine independent neural signatures. In addition, use two-week experience sampling in approximately 1,000 people to estimate spontaneous occurrence rate; a finite sample cannot prove that 'everyone has entered.'
Suggested paper title
Electrophysiological and Network Signatures of Induced Absorption Across Wakefulness, Hypnosis, Meditation, and Sleep Onset
What it would overturn
If a cross-task, cross-center reproducible independent state emerges, this would revise the competing hypothesis that 'the experience can be explained by known wakeful absorption, relaxation, and sleep-onset transitions,' rather than directly overturn existing theories of consciousness.

Specificity of Seth's formulation
'One step away' lacks a measurement scale; 'everyone' is a strong universal claim but difficult to exhaustively verify; the original text does not predict alpha frequency, coherence direction, or default mode network patterns—these are added operationalizations.
Note
This review grades the specific core of the entire claim; 'untested' means that this online search found no direct test, not proof that no one worldwide studies it; the listed related papers are not direct support for A-1; all experimental sample sizes are planned magnitudes and must be finalized according to the smallest meaningful effect and statistical power.
